From Old French juge (“judge (noun)”), juger (“judge (verb)”), ultimately from Latin iūdicare (“pass judgement upon”), from iūdicem (“accusative of iūdex”), from iūdex (“judge”), from iūs (“law”) + dicus (“speaker”).
